George Barricklow(c1786-1815),s/o Hendrick Barricklow(c1746-1825) Line

CHRONOLOGY OF COINCIDENTAL OR LINKABLE EVENTS:

1. GEORGE BARRICKLOW, is born circa 1786 in South Brunswick Twp.,Middlesex Co.,NJ., the son of Hendrick and Magdalena(Duryea) Barricklow.

2. GEORGE BARRICKLOW, for some reason, is not baptised in the 6-Mile DR Church as are his three older siblings(Daniel,Maria & Hendrick,Jr.), and, as are two of his younger siblings(William & Frederick). The hiatus of baptisms, between 1781 and 1789, seems inexplicable, except by a loss in church records for that period, or a brief move, just far enough away from the church to become a lengthy enough sojourn that Hendrick & Lena either had them baptised elsewhere or not at all.

3. GEORGE BARRICKLOW, between 1796-1799, accompanies his parents to Fayette Co.,Pennsylvania to join Uncle Conrad's family, which has been there since 1789.

4. GEORGE BARRICKLOW, on 14 Jan 1808, marries Sarah Oglevee nine days short of her 17th birthday, no doubt by permission and issued affidavit of her father, Joseph Oglevee(1765-1835).

5. GEORGE BARRICKLOW, in early summer of 1812, leaves Fayette County for Harrison County,Ohio, joining his 1st cousin, Hendrick Barricklow(1772-1851), who had taken out a land patent there, 20 Jan 1809, in the NW part of Section 13,Twp.10,Range 5. George Barricklow obtains his patent, 30 Jul 1812, on the SW portion of Section 15, Twp.10, Range 5.

6. GEORGE BARRICKLOW, is listed in the Index of Fayette County(PA) Grantees to Deeds(#958) as a purchaser of land in Franklin Twp. with a deed dated the 24th of Dec 1814. The Grantor Index lists the seller of that land as George's brother, Farrington Barricklow(1783-1836).

7. GEORGE BARRICKLOW, dies in Aug 1815. His administration, dated 9 Sep 1815, is handled in Harrison County,Ohio, assumed to be the place of his death, and where the disposition of his orphaned children is taken up by the court. Their cousin(not uncle), Hendrick Barricklow(1772-1851), son of Conrad, is named their legal guardian. The vendue list of creditors is presented to the court on 3 Nov 1815, and the inventory of his estate is completed on 30 Nov 1815.

8. GEORGE BARRICKLOW's widow, Sarah Oglevee Barricklow, remarries, 5 Mar 1818, William Johnson(b.15 Dec 1791) back in Fayette Co.,PA. Family records suggest George's wife and children did not spend much time with their court-appointed guardian, Henry Barricklow, but most likely returned to Fayette Co.,PA and lived with their paternal grandparents(Oglevee) for awhile, until Sarah married, at which time the Johnsons emigrated west to Dearborn or Ripley Co.,Indiana.

EVALUATING ANCESTRY PROBABILITIES:

Although the ancestry of George Barricklow is known with reasonable certainty even without documentation from probate records, it is the names of his four or five children that establish his line as "Orphan". The names of four seem certain: Henry(b.1809-p1880), Eleanor(Lenah)(5 May 1810-28 Mar 1901)m. 1) Randle Pate, 2) Henry Barricklow; Sarah(7 Jan 1812-30 May 1914); and Joseph(c1814-p1870). In fact, there may only be four.
