John Barricklow(1775-1844),s/o Conrad Barricklow(1742-1802) Line

CHRONOLOGY OF COINCIDENTAL OR LINKABLE EVENTS:

1. JOHN BARRICKLOW, is born 12 Jan 1775, in South Brunswick Twp., Middlesex Co.,NJ., the son of Conrad Barricklow(1742-1802) and Sarah Oglevee(1739-1826).

2. JOHN BARRICKLOW, is baptised 26 Feb 1775, in the 6-Mile Run DR Church, Franklin Twp.,Somerset Co.,NJ.

3. JOHN BARRICKLOW, as a 14-year-old, accompanies his father and family to Fayette Co.,PA. circa 1789.

4. JOHN BARRICKLOW, although residing in Fayette Co.,PA., marries Ann Minor, 28 Nov 1797, in Middlesex Co.,NJ. She may have been the daughter of Samuel and Ann Minor of Fayette Co.,PA., suggesting John Barricklow may have taken his fiance back to New Jersey to be married among the Barricklows still residing there.

5. JOHN BARRICKLOW, does not appear in the 1800 Federal Census of Pennsylvania as a head of family. The data on his father, Conrad Barricklow(00311-10001), suggests he might be back at home, but, if he is, it would be without his bride, which intimates he could still be in New Jersey, which lost all its federal censuses before 1830.

6. JOHN BARRICKLOW, is listed in the 1810 census of Dunbar Twp.,Fayette Co.,PA. The data shows two adult males, age 26-45. The 2nd male should be his brother, Farrington(1777-1861), who appears to be single.

7. JOHN BARRICKLOW, is likely the same listed in the 1820 census of Randolph Twp., Dearborn Co.,IN. His data(110222-00201) implies brother,Farrington(b.1777) is still sharing the farm, and, perhaps, the orphaned children of a brother or sister. Assuming the two oldest males to be John and Farrington, the two adult males between 26-45, and the two males between 18-26, are either children of whom we're not aware, or they are summer visitors, probably family, from Harrison Co.,OH., or Fayette Co.,PA.

8. JOHN BARRICKLOW, marries a 2nd wife, Frances Thompson(b.1796,PA.),25 Jan 1830, in Dearborn Co.,IN. His first wife, Ann Minor, must be deceased, perhaps as much as 20 years or more.

9. JOHN BARRICKLOW, is still residing in Dearborn Co.,Indiana in 1830(00003002-000221) with orphaned family members, or live-in adult farm laborers and servants.

10. JOHN BARRICKLOW, decides to emigrate to Iowa to take advantage of cheap homestead land being offered. He does not appear in the 1836 Iowa Territorial Census of Demoine[sic] County, as are cousins, Farrington Barricklow(1783-1836) and William Barricklow(1810-1865). Farrington dies shortly thereafter, leaving a large family, most of whom remain in Iowa and Illinois.

11. JOHN BARRICKLOW dies 5 Mar 1844, age- 69y.,1m.,23d., in Femme Osage Twp.,St. Charles Co.,MO., leaving his wife, Frances,48, and four daughters, Sarah,14,b.IN.; Ann,11,b.IN.; Mary Jane,10,b.IA.; and Elizabeth F.,age 4,b.MO. John is buried in the Barricklow-Thompson B.G. near Femme Osage.

12. JOHN BARRICKLOW's widow, Frances(Thompson) Barricklow, remarries, 28 Oct 1847, John DUBERT, who must have died before the 1850 census, leaving his son, William Dubert,17, as the sole male. Frances marries for a 3rd time, 13 Apr 1852, also in St. Charles Co.,MO., Ananias CRITS, a 52-year-old German-born immigrant.

EVALUATING ANCESTRY PROBABILITIES:

The most confusing issues regarding John Barricklow center around whether any of the younger people enumerated with him in the censuses from 1810-1840 are children of his by first wife, Ann Minor. One son I believe is linked to John is the Joseph Barricklow who married Susannah Thompson on 7 Aug 1834 in Dearborn Co.,IN., the summer before the John Barricklow group headed west. John may have paused briefly in Morgan Co.,IL., as Joseph Barricklow, presumed to be a son, married there, 13 Feb 1836, Martha HUME, indicating Susannah(Thompson)Barricklow may have died along with a first born child. At least one of John Barricklow's daughters by Frances Thompson appeared to backtrack to Morgan Co.,IL. before ending up in central Missouri.
