(NOTE- Numbers in parentheses will correspond to the generational I.D. number within the Lineage Charts)
NOTE #1- It's not known if James and Polly Bartlow(as they're referred to in brother Barnet Bartlow's 1824 will) had children, as there was no reference in Barnet's will to any. James was believed old enough to have grown children if he'd married in his 20's or 30's. Barnet may have only been concerned with the minor children of his deceased brothers and sisters.
NOTE #2- James was, logically, due to Dutch naming protocol, the eldest son of Barnet Barkelow(1730-c1800), named for his paternal grandfather, James Barkelow(1698-1780) of Kingwood Twp.,Hunterdon Co.,NJ.
NOTE #3- This James Barkelow/Bartlow would likely be called James Barentson Barkelow/Bartlow, among relatives and within Barkelow enclaves in Hunterdon Co.,NJ. His patronymic middle name would separate him from his first cousin, James Williamson Barkelow/Bartlow(1753-1834), who split with the group living near Gettysburg(1786-1793) and went up the Susquehanna River to Northumberland County in 1793/94. Another first cousin, James Bartlow(1766-1854), son of Cornelius Barkelow(1736-1806), was already living in the Martinsburgh,Berkeley Co.,VA. area when most of the Barkelow families began leaving their Hunterdon Co.,NJ stamping grounds around 1785. There was also an uncle, James Barkelow,Jr.(1732-1797) who, no doubt, passed through the Gettysburg area on his way to Hampshire Co.,VA.(now W.VA.) in 1788/89.
